Take Heart: the scourge of rheumatic heart disease

Having premiered in recent weeks at select screenings across the country, the award-winning documentary Take Heart works to share the health problem of rheumatic heart disease in Australia, particularly the Northern Territory.

The disease is entirely preventable.

It starts with a sore throat or infected skin sores in children, though untreated can lead to permanent heart damage.Indigenous Australians in the Northern Territory are at most danger as the disease is brought on by poverty, overcrowding and reduced access to medical care.

Rheumatic heart disease threatens the lives of over thirty million young people around the world, and 2% of Indigenous Australians living in the Top End.

Winner of 9 awards at the 2016 Global Independent Film Awards including Best Documentary, Take Heart explores the social, environmental and health effects of rheumatic heart disease.
